Whooo hooo - Pat's in too!

Now that mom has accepted her Author status - well we all know what an O'Hara does with a captive audience. This is Mom's first blog post but she wanted me to write the update! I will try my best to be as witty as she always is - ok the apple fell far from the tree - leave the witty up to the pros.

So....about this chemo journey. It all started at 5:45 a.m. in a dreaded snow storm - I probably would have turned back to Red Deer but couldn't see any exit ramps - had to follow the big trucks who didn't lead me back home. Just followed the Big Guy in the sky!

Once at the hospital - well you know in the movies the chemo rooms are dreary, cold, barf bags all around and people crying......well it's not true. We were greeted by helpful cancer survivors who knew the look on a new face - of where the heck do we go? And to our surprise was a pack of happy-go-lucky nurses with such an aura about them. Yes, cheery lights and happiness eluded the entire day unit. Then the fun began.....really! Anti nausea meds were infused and then chemo. Mom had her barf bag ready but I kept telling her that was in the "olden" days! She didn't believe me - but she didn't need it! Ok she believed it when a lady beside her returned with chicken fingers and fries while receiving chemo. Mom's face - well priceless! Looking around the room at about 70 individuals receiving chemo - only 1 has lost her hair, others working on lap tops, watching movies or just networking with others who have been dealt this card! Mom is very lucky to have only one organ affected.....others there have 3 or 4 affected areas and have been LIVING WITH CANCER for 4, 7 even 18 years! Mom's chemo cocktail (baileys would be preferred) is of a lighter dose with fewer side effects. She will continue for the next 3 days and believe me this crossroads is the beginning of something new and wonderful for her. Just wait to here her new outlook!! SHE LOOKS MARVELOUS!!!!
